Hallett Cove Hike

What a pleasure to have this beaute little conservation park near our house. The city council has made some amazing walking trails along Hallett Cove, a major geological landmark in the Australia and the world. The black rock folded layers you see are ocean sediments laid down around 600 million years ago. Around 500 million years ago they were folded into mountains. Around 270 million years ago, glaciers cut into these sediments wore them down. You can see the evidence in the photos below. You can see the glacial cut floor in the background behind me (note the pale glacial sediments above the black rock). The actual grooves cut by the glaciers are still engraved into the black rock on top of the cliffs. This conservation park is about 1o minutes south of our house here and we'll be going back for hikes much more regularly now that we know about it. I hear the fishing is great off the rocks here too.
