Recent Fieldwork in the Pilbara

What a pleasure to work in Australia's remote regions! These photos were taken during fieldwork in northwest Australia. In respect to clients and traditional owners, I'm posting only some generic shots of where I've been working. You can get an impression of the terrain that we have been working in. It's rugged country and long, hard days of hiking, but probably the most rewarding archaeological fieldwork I've done. The crew was great, the sites amazing, and the local Traditional Owners were fantastic. Check out the photo of the stone artefact quarry. You can actually conjoin these blades back onto the cores. The stone knapping floors are intact...as if someone was just working there the other day. We recorded hundreds of petroglyphs, lithic sites, and stone arrangements.
